Vegan Leather Pants: A F/W 2020 Essential

It’s a running joke amongst my friends and colleagues that I don’t do pants. The occasional pair of tailored slacks are fine, but I so rarely wear jeans that when I arrived to work one day last year in freshly minted Madewell cropped white denim, it was a topic of conversation literally all morning. Honestly, I just find most pants constricting, so I generally avoid them in favor of dresses and skirts (with tights in cold weather). Except for leather pants, which I’ve always had a soft spot for. Or more likely these days, the humane version: vegan leather. I felt like it was time to share my three current faves, which all happen to be from Aritzia. I went in there recently and it was basically wall-to-wall vegan leather—a dream come true in my book, especially since their version looks and feels like the real deal.

#1: The Wilred High Tie Pant: these super high-waisted cropped (even on me!) pants are so flattering with their modern fit. They work with so many different tops and shoes. And with a removable tie belt, it’s easy to swap in another belt for a different look. Outfit details: WeWoreWhat top; Sam Edelman booties; Aldo sunnies.

#2: The Conan Pant: no joke, I have these pants in about seven colors, so it was only natural I’d purchase the vegan leather edition once it was released. The occasional trouser I mentioned earlier? The Conans are about the only ones I’m down for. Their high waist, cropped leg and streamlined structure makes them the perfectly stylish and polished work trouser. Outfit details: Urban Outfitters top (via Poshmark); Sbicca mules; vintage sunnies.

#3: The Daria Pant: A long-time mainstay at Aritzia, these have been a staple in my closet for at least five years. I’ve gone through a few pair now, but replenishing is always worth it. These are a classic leather-style legging: skin-tight, high-waisted and perfect for elevating any basic winter look. Highly recommend. Outfit details: Zara tunic; vintage necklace; Marc Fisher boots (this season’s version); H&M sunnies.
