On the Fringe

The minute this white vegan leather jacket arrived at my doorstep, I started playing around with what I wanted to pair it with and landed on…jeans. I know, I was as surprised as you might be, seeing as I almost never wear jeans (more on that in a minute), but I felt like this pair struck just the right chord of casual alongside the statement this jacket makes. To top off the look, I threw on a cotton tee, a pair of my fave trusty split-side Jeffries and a mess of turquoise and silver jewelry.

So about me and jeans: I am often asked why I don’t wear them, and all I can really say is I find them extremely constricting and uncomfortable. Also, I am short and have always had a difficult time finding a pair that both fits me right and is flattering. Nine and a half times out of ten, I simply prefer dresses, tights, shorts, skirts, slacks, leggings…anything really. But I do have some denim that I find less offensive—because let’s face it, you have to have at least a couple pair—and most of them are by Just Black. I find this brand to be relatively comfortable and a flattering fit for me. But that’s the thing: jeans are an intensely personal purchase decision and everyone has their go-to brand(s) that fit them the best. The trick is finding the ones that work for you.

Also, I want to mention this tee was not originally cropped; I cut it to make it a length I liked more. I cut, pin, tie, unstitch/restitch and otherwise manipulate my clothing all the time to suit my needs. Why settle for something that’s just ok when you could make it into something you love?

Outfit details: Vigoss jacket; American Apparel tee (no longer avail, but similar); Just Black Basic Mom Jeans via Current Clothing; Jeffrey Campbell booties; vintage turquoise and silver jewelry.
