Almost Spring

Winter is on its way out (thankfully) and the ushering in of spring couldn’t be more of a welcome change. I don’t know about you, but it’s felt like a particularly long winter—and I don’t even live in a snowy climate. It’s just been…dismal. And I’m ready for sunshine and longer days and the inevitable feeling of hope that I’ve come to associate with the onset of warmer weather.

With that comes a change in getting dressed. It’s nearly time to set aside the fur coats and leather boots and make room for lighter jackets and open-toed heels—but not quite. Enter: transitional outfits. I’ve spoken about this before, in the context of summer-to-fall, and love the challenge of dressing in the midst of this seasonal shift because it forces me to pair things together that I might not otherwise.

That’s precisely how this outfit was born. I’ve been in pants for so many months (pants are a must whilst outdoor dining in SF this time of year) that my legs are pasty. My olive skin tans really quickly once exposed but I’ve been so covered for so many months in an effort to stay warm, so I was both nervous and excited to put on a skirt. The results? Yep, I’m really pale (for me), but it made me feel like my old self.

I like this as a transitional look because it blends a winter palette with lighter fabrics and bare legs. In reality, I would wear this with another layer, likely a long jacket, for warmth, but didn’t bother with it for the sake of the photos.

Outfit details: Zara shirt & blazer (similar); Aritzia skirt (soooo old); Sbicca mules; Lupo bag.
